UM Rugby FAQ's __________________________________________

What is Rugby?

Rugby is the full contact sport that will challenge you mentally and physically. The sport originated in England and has since spread everywhere, now being the second most popular sport in the world behind soccer. Rugby rules are simple-- you can advance the ball forward by running or kicking, but can only pass the ball backwards. Other perks of the game include full contact hitting without the use of pads. If you are looking for a sport that will make you more physically fit, more mentally quick, and a lot more tough, this is the sport for you.

What are the rules of Rugby?

For all the rules of the game visit the folowing link: www.irb.com/Laws/Laws/LawsOfTheGame

What are the requirements to play Rugby?

Rugby is open to all players-- players with no experience all the way to those who have played all their lives. UM Rugby fosters the development of the game among new players while working to improve the skills of the most experienced. The only requirements to play are a willingness to learn, hit, and be hit. While Rugby isn't for everyone, don't be discouraged if you have never played before. It just might be your sport!

Who does UM Rugby play against?

Competition for the UM Rugby club includes play against many different levels. We compete against all universities in Florida with a rugby program, the more skilled Men's Clubs throughout the state, as well as international clubs who visit Miami. An annual Florida Cup competition culminates in a champion being crowned for the state who represents Florida in the USA Rugby National Competition.
